Correspondence primarily concerned with the Civil War, but also including information on the fortification of Jalapa, Mexico (1847) and Beauregard's appointment to the Army Corps of Engingeer. For the Civil War there are letters to Jefferson Davis, including one from Beauregard offering his services to the Confederate Army, Samuel Cooper, Thomas Jordan, and letters and telegrams from Davis; Generals Robert S. Ripley, Sterling Martin Wood, Sterling Price, and James E. Slaughter, concerning the defenses in Mississippi, 1861-62; Daniel H. Hill warning of Grant's threat to Petersburg, 1864; General William J. Hardee concerning operations in South Carolina and Georgia, 1865; and on operations in Georgia and Alabama, 1865. There are notes from conferences with Jefferson Davis before the campaign in Vicksburg. The collection includes references to most major battles and campaigns of the War. The papers for the years after the war deal with Louisiana politics, various business ventures including railroad building in Louisiana and Mexico, and questions about the war, particularly the defense of Charleston, S.C., and the battle of Shiloh. A letter to R.E. Lee in 1866 comments on Reconstruction. There are clippings about Beauregard's funeral in 1893.

P.G.T. Beauregard was a Confederate States Army general from New Orleans, Louisiana.
